Offshoot

The Offshoot Special Interest Group is a hands-on practical group aimed at getting out there and developing skills in capturing great images. Alongside those members wanting to develop their skills are a core of more experienced photographers who can provide tips and pointers. It is for both film and digital shooters.

It gets together twice each month: one meeting to get out there and be OFF SHOOTING, and the other to get together to learn something new and practical about photography.

Members of the group are the source of the inspiration. Offshoot is particularly suited for new members, potential members and members who would like to work with others to just get out there and have some fun.

Members of the group have contributed the following ideas which Offshoot works from:

  • Meet new people with interest in photography
  • Share ideas/learn new skills/take more photos
  • Interact with others who are interested in improving their creative impulses through the photographic medium.
  • Discuss ways of critiquing images constructively – approach, emphasis,
  • symbols and their meaning etc
  • Go to different locations to shoot whatever takes their fancy.
  • Learn about the “creative” shots, composition and editing photos.
  • Learn more about the functions on the camera.
  • Meet once a month to learn one new skill/tip about making of photographs that tell a message
  • Provide an opportunity in a smaller group to share photos in a way that allows for growth and stimulation of the photographic experience
  • Having group outings based on a set project followed by a review session talking about the results achieved
  • Keeping an eye out for events
  • Have a monthly project to work on
  • Collect a body of work over the year to use to show the club in its annual presentations from the Special Interest Groups

Members of Offshoot are encouraged to join the private Flickr Offshoot Group so they can upload photos after one of our outings and from our monthly project. These images are not available for public viewing - but members may agree to have their images linked to the WPS gallery as we progress.
