WPS Annual Exhibition

Monday, 18 October – Friday, 05 November 2010
First-floor gallery of the St. James Theatre, Wellington

The deadline for submitting prints was 12 August, and the selection night was our meeting on 9 September.

The selectors were Marie-Jean Mills and her daughter Amber-Jayne Bain. They were given the following criteria for selection:

  1. To select a wide range of subject matter.
  2. All members who submit to have at least one print selected – subject to maintaining the minimum quality standards.
  3. If more than 50 prints meet the above criteria, then the number will be reduced to 50 by removing prints from those members who have the greatest number of prints selected.

Marie-Jean Mills and Amber-Jayne Bain are the mother and daughter combo who are not only deeply entrenched in The Photo School, but also work together regularly shooting weddings.

Marie-Jean has been taking photographs for most of her life, with the past year primarily occupied with shooting an enormous array of images for the Online Introduction to Digital Photography programme, which Amber-Jayne has been in charge of writing, for The Photo School.

Until recently, Amber-Jayne was in charge of teaching the digital photography and Photoshop components of the The Photo School programmes, while Marie-Jean is the creative and darkroom tutor, and co-director of the school, alongside Mel Phillips. Amber-Jayne continues to operate her commercial and wedding photography business (at half-speed this year, while caring for her first baby).
